Since 2016, WhatWorks conferences have been held to provide a place to gather and talk about success stories, what works, what is needed, and how it can be applied to create a BFFA. Places like Orange County California, Costa Rica, Burroughs of London, the Brazilian Amazon, Iceland, the EU and India have all used the SPI framework to guide and make policy choices. It is a gathering for those formulating and making policy choices that create outcomes meaningful to people.
"We realized that living conditions determine health outcomes, but more than that, living conditions determine life outcomes. We have to ask this in the public health domain, in the public policy domain. If we are truly treating patients for their health, why are we sending them back to the conditions that make them sick?" - Katie Kalvoda

We trusted technology to continuously deliver more wealth and better lives for more humans. Yet, we now know growth alone is not enough to ensure inclusion. In order to have true inclusive growth, we should measure progress more directly. Right now, we do not sufficiently measure what matters most. If we truly want inclusive growth, it needs to be more than a talking point. We need to measure what matters to human quality of life alongside traditional metrics like GDP. Imagine a local coalition of nonprofits, corporations, academics and government leaders building the base camp to prepare for the climb to a better future. - Anne Gemmell
How are we visualizing social progress in the future? In the beginning we tried to measure the SPI at different levels, in cities, in states. Now we have worldwide projects. Going from the index, to action, to impact has allowed the SPI to take part in worldwide projects to advance social progress. The US Social Progress Index now measures social progress at a State, City, and most importantly at a census tract level. - Jaime García, Social Progress Imperative Regional Director, INCAE Business School
